Reach the right players, and turn positive recognition from Chinese players into real momentum.

Consistent data shows that games often receive lower review scores from Chinese players than in other major markets. This raises an important question for experienced publishers and development teams: how can positive player sentiment be built and maintained in China? ReStory has the answer.

Our approach begins with identifying the right players at the right stage of a game’s lifecycle. Our years of experience in the Chinese market have taught us that positive sentiment does not happen automatically. Chinese players are generally less likely to proactively leave positive reviews, and a rapidly expanding audience also means a higher proportion of price-sensitive consumers. Effective marketing therefore requires more than reach — it requires precision.

We identify the core player groups most likely to appreciate a game based on its genre, quality, positioning and stage of release. Equally importantly, we select the right communities and conversations. Different player groups can respond very differently to the same game, as they have distinct tastes, expectations and reasons to engage.

This is why we focus on topics that are highly relevant to players and have significant social potential. The right conversation can help players recognise a game’s unique strengths and turn its most memorable moments into highly shareable social content.

For the launch of ReStory, LongRiver Games focused its market and community strategy on Rednote, where we identified a more relaxed and community-friendly audience that closely matched the game’s tone. Rather than simply maximising exposure, our priority was to establish a positive and authentic community image for the game.

The result exceeded expectations: ReStory generated more than 4 million effective impressions on Rednote while maintaining a positive review rate of over 90% among Chinese-language players, demonstrating how precise audience targeting can translate into visibility and positive player sentiment.
